Litigation Research Technologies, a jury research firm, will be holding a mock trial event at the Lodge of Four Seasons on Tuesday, April 15, and they need a legal focus group to act as a “jury.” The gig is open to anyone in the Lake of the Ozarks area, age 18 or older, and it pays a lot better than normal jury duty: $250 for the day, plus lunch will be served.

Tom Somenek, VP of Litigation Research for the firm, said he couldn’t share many details about the case, but said it would be a very interesting experience for anyone who’s chosen to participate. “We do these all around the country,” he told LakeExpo. “We just finished one in Ontario, Cali. this week.” Somenek said he’s done more than 700 events like this over the past 31 years.
He explained the purpose of the mock trial: the parties in a (real) lawsuit are struggling to come to terms, so a mock trial allows both sides to make their case in front of a focus group, whose responsibility is to listen and then share their impressions of the case and arguments afterward.
The result is insights for both parties in the legal case, allowing them to get a feel for how a jury might respond to the elements of the case.
Somenek is hoping to gain a wide range of participants for this mock-jury, saying the only qualifications are that the person be age 18 or older and be willing to share their opinions verbally and in writing at the end of the day.
