MILLER COUNTY, Mo. — A one-year-old girl was seriously injured when an SUV hit a tree near Eldon on Tuesday evening. Authorities say the baby was not in a car seat.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 19-year-old Shawna Sharp was driving a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on Adams Road. Sharp failed to negotiate a curve in the road and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to travel off the right side of the road, hit a tree, and overturn.

Sharp and 15-year-old Adenia Love were both wearing seat belts, the Highway Patrol reported, and sustained minor injuries in the crash. Love was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital and Sharp was taken to Capital Region Medical Center. One-year-old Sarabella Cox was not restrained in a car seat, according to the report, and sustained serious injuries. She was taken by ambulance to Capital Region Medical Center and then flown to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis for treatment.
