LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — Kentucky, or spotted, bass fishing is hot right now, as the Lake cools off and fish feed aggressively.
Local fishing guide Jim Dill says his guide trips this week produced plenty of active fish, caught all day long. His group was pulling in an average of 20–25 Kentucky bass per day. And some sported serious heft, weighing more than three pounds—a significant size for this smaller variety.
Largemouth bass, on the other hand, are a bit more sluggish, though Dill says the largemouth bite has been improving in the past week as water temperatures hit the 60s.
“The majority of fish seem to be schooled at the mouths of creeks, main lake points, and bluff ends,” Dill explains. He recommends a variety of lures for hauling in lots of Kentucky bass:
- Zoom super fluke
- 3/4-oz Crock-O-Gator buzz bait
- Heddon One Knocker Spook
- 1/2-oz Crock-O-Gator Zapper jig

As the Lake experiences the fall temperature drop, the water has become stained throughout. The water temperature is hovering between 66–68 degrees.
