CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — Fire crews quickly brought a residential blaze under control Wednesday evening at a waterfront home in the Edwards area.
The Northwest Fire Protection District was dispatched around 6:55 p.m. to a two-story lakeside home off Stoddard Road, where smoke and flames were visible from the attic. According to fire officials, neighbors were able to slow the spread using garden hoses before firefighters arrived.
Engine 1 was first on scene and used a water can to extinguish the remaining fire. Mutual aid was requested due to limited water access, with assistance from Deer Creek Fire Protection District, FF 14/17, and a fire boat from Coffman Bend Fire and Rescue.
Crews contained the fire to a small section of the attic and exterior within five minutes. They remained on scene for about an hour, conducting overhaul operations and ventilating the home. No injuries were reported, though two days earlier firefighters had also responded to another residential blaze in the district.
The heat index at the time of the fire was 102 degrees. The cause of the fire has not been officially determined. NWFPD says crews were able to help preserve many of the homeowners' belongings.
