CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. – The Mid-County Fire Protection District has rolled out a new technology to better protect first responders and warn drivers when emergency vehicles are nearby.

The district is now using Safety Cloud® by HAAS Alert, a system that sends real-time digital alerts to drivers when emergency vehicle lights and sirens are activated. These warnings appear directly on in-dash displays in vehicles from brands like Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, & Ram, and on mobile apps such as Waze and Apple Maps.

According to Mid-County Fire, adding these digital alerts alongside traditional lights and sirens has been shown to reduce the risk of secondary collisions near roadside incidents by up to 90%. The system also helps drivers comply with Missouri’s Move Over laws, which require motorists to slow down and change lanes when approaching emergency vehicles.

The project was funded through a Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) Highway Safety Grant. Mid-County Fire emphasizes that this new technology enhances safety for everyone on the road during emergencies.
