LINN CREEK, Mo. — Last weekend's fundraiser at Seven Springs Winery for the Missouri Forget-Me-Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary brought in more than $4,000, to help fund the sanctuary and feed horses through the winter months.
The organization has a goal to purchase 180 bales of horse-quality hay for this winter. Bales typically cost $55, including delivery. So far, the sanctuary has met about one-fourth of its goal.
Forget-Me-Not is currently near its maximum capacity on the amount of horses it can care for, with approximately 50 horses, a few of which are on pasture in "foster" situations. The sanctuary rescues horses that have been neglected or malnourished or whose owners can no longer care for them, throughout the mid-Missouri region.
At the winery's fundraiser, the Lady Elks from the Community Elks Lodge #2705 in Laurie, Mo. donated $220 to the organization, for the purchase of four bales of hay.
