CAMDENTON, Mo. — A motel-turned-apartment-complex caught fire Wednesday morning, and the fire marshal is investigating.
At 9:04 a.m. on Oct. 17, Mid-County Fire Protection District was dispatched to the former 5-81 motel, which was functioning as full-time apartments. The building, located on Old Highway 5 North next door to Ballentine 5-81 One Stop, was heavily damaged. At least five units and the office were involved, displacing a number of residents and their pets. Authorities say at least three pets were killed in the fire. The five units and office are a total loss, and other units suffered smoke and water damage.
Sunrise Beach, Osage Beach and Lebanon Fire Protection Districts all assisted at the scene. Fire Marshal Johnson said the fire was still under investigation and could not comment on the potential cause of the blaze. She confirmed no human injuries were reported. Mid County Fire says the State Fire Marshal, MCFPD Fire Marshal, and Camden Sheriff's Office are involved in the investigation.
