CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — Early reports of broken voting machines in the Aug. 5 elections were already causing a stir among voters Tuesday morning, but Camden County Clerk Rowland Todd says as of 9:15 a.m., the machines have already been repaired and are working normally.
The two machines at issue are located at Kent Lutheran Memorial Church in Sunrise Beach. Todd explained the problem: “The reader head got jarred… all we had to do was snap it back down.”
He guessed the issue likely resulted from a bumpy car ride when the machines were originally brought to the voting center.
Voters who had attempted to cast their ballots when the machines were malfunctioning had to put them in a box nearby. Todd says the county clerk’s office did not touch those ballots; Republican and Democrat judges removed them from the boxes and fed them through the machines once they were up and running again.
Todd said he had already been receiving calls from voters about the issue, with one individual threatening to call the Secretary of State Jason Kander’s office for a full review. Todd called Kander’s office, and personnel there said they had not received any complaints.
On a side note, Todd also said the clerk’s office is in need of additional Democrat judges today. Any registered Democrats who would be interested in acting as an election judge may contact Rowland Todd at 573-317-3890.
