LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — A pontoon capsized and almost completely sank on Friday afternoon around the 45 Mile Marker, leaving the driver swimming.
A eyewitness said there appeared to have been only one person aboard the pontoon (the driver) when it sank. The person told LakeExpo the boat appeared to start taking on water in the port side pontoon. Very quickly, the eyewitness said, half the boat — including the motor — was submerged.
A passing boater scooped the driver out of the Lake along with a few cushions from the pontoon, which was barely visible above the waterline. The boat was reportedly towed from the scene, with no injuries, according to the eyewitness.
LakeExpo has reached out to the Missouri State Highway Patrol about the incident and will update this story with additional details as they are available.
