LAURIE, Mo. — Because the initial class was such a success, the Westlake Aquatic Center is offering a second “Aqua-Fit Boot Camp” session of evening water aerobics.
Billed as “Not your Grandma’s water aerobics class” the WAC’s Boot Camp is aimed at people who may work during the day and who need to stay—or become—fit. Exercises during the session will take place in both shallow and deep water.
Instructor Sue Elliott reminds potential participants that working out in water eliminates the effects of gravity by supporting 90 percent of the body’s weight for reduced impact and greater flexibility. Water also offers greater resistance than air, which means simply walking in water ultimately burns more calories than walking on land.
The class is free to members of the Laurie pool. Cost for non-members is $50 for six hour-long sessions. The Westlake Aquatic Center pool is the only indoor mini-Olympic-sized pool at the Lake of the Ozarks.
