"We have several people who have been with us for years, and we've had some boat slip renters for more than 20 years," assistant manager Aramie Reaves said. "Some people come for a weekend visit and end up signing up as annual renters."

That sense of community is one of the biggest reasons guests choose to stay. During the warmer months, the campground comes alive with golf carts cruising the roads, children riding bikes and scooters, families fishing from the docks, and boaters heading out on the water.

"It's very friendly here," Reaves said. "If someone pulls in, neighbors are often out there helping them back up their rig into their site. Everyone waves. It has that Midwest charm."

Annual RV members enjoy full-hookup sites with electric, water and sewer service, along with a concrete pad and fire pit. Better yet, the sites remain available year-round.

"Your site is usable all year," Reaves said. "We don't shut down. It's a great place to store your RV and your boat so everything is ready when you are."

Security and maintenance are also priorities. Cameras monitor the property, staff members are onsite year-round, and approximately half of the employees live on the property themselves.

"We live here too, so someone is always here that cares about this place," Reaves said.

No RV? No problem!

Mermaid Cove Marina offers unique lodging options, including a glamping wagon, designed to resemble a vintage covered wagon, featuring a queen bed, bunk beds, full bathroom and modern comforts, as well as a lodge room with a queen bed, mini refrigerator, and nearby shower facilities.

These extra facilities come in handy when annual members have guests that want to stay on-site. Mermaid Cove Marina also partners with Breakaway Boat Rentals if the family wants to spend a day with guests on a pontoon boat out on the Lake. “We love working with them. They are great people and very reliable,” Reaves said.

Throughout the year, Mermaid Cove Marina hosts a full calendar of community events that keep members interacting with each other and having a wonderful time. Popular activities include golf cart parades, pool float relay races, camper crawls, member-led adult Easter egg hunts and the ongoing "Hide the Gnome" game, where guests search for three hidden gnomes named Nettie, Shelly and Sandy throughout the campground to win prizes.

“It's fun seeing kids and adults searching for the gnomes,” Reaves said with a laugh.

One camper crawl featured an Around the World theme, with participants decorating their sites and serving foods inspired by different countries.

“We suggested everyone put out snacks from the country they decorated their RV site with. But many people went all out and served full-on meals! It was a lot of fun,” Reaves said.

"Everyone enjoys meeting the other guests," Reaves said. "People really look forward to the community events."

The marina's annual fireworks celebration has also become a favorite tradition. Fireworks are donated, and all event donations are passed along to Kent Memorial Buddy Pack Program.

"We keep everything clean and picked up, and we communicate with our members," Reaves explained. "We want people to enjoy their time here.”
