CAMDENTON, Mo. — Rescue crews saved a 13-year-old girl from a truck that had become stranded in high water over the weekend.

The Mid County Fire Protection District was called on Saturday, Dec. 26 to a swift water rescue on Possum Hollow Road, on the north side of Camdenton, during the height of the heavy rainfall event.

A 13-year-old girl was trapped in a truck that had tried to cross a low water crossing. “This section of road has six low water crossings, unfortunately we had to ford four to get to the rescue,” Chief Frandsen said.

“Our swift water rescue team had to traverse very fast rushing water. We were able to get to the young girl, put a life jacket on her, and tether her with a rope to one of our swift water technicians who then was able to pull her to safety on land.”

Two adults in the truck were able to make it out of the vehicle and reach land before firefighters arrived on the scene.

The girl was taken to EMS where she was checked out and released with no injuries.

“These are unprecedented levels of water we are dealing with here,” Chief Frandsen warns. “They will be here for a while. Do not drive through flooded roadways.”
