CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — A drug sting operation in Lake Ozark left a police officer injured and a suspect in jail on Wednesday.

Keaton Baker, of Downing, Mo., is charged with 1st Degree Assault (Felony B), Delivery Of Controlled Substance (Felony C), and Resisting Arrest By Fleeing (Felony E), after authorities say he fled from a drug sting in the parking lot of Woods Supermarket late Tuesday night.

According to the probable cause statement for Baker’s arrest, a drug sting operation was set up by Lake Ozark police, and police observed Keaton sell a “white crystal substance” to the informant.

When a police officer approached Keaton, authorities say he accelerated his vehicle toward the parking lot exit and intentionally struck a stopped patrol car that was blocking the exit.

The ensuing chase led authorities across the toll bridge and down Route MM. Police say Keaton then made a U-turn in the middle of the road, and struck the same patrol car again, this time causing the side airbags of the patrol car to deploy and injuring the police officer behind the wheel. Keaton’s vehicle accelerated into the patrol car, pushing it backwards, as he attempted to flee, according to police.

Spike strips placed on the toll bridge damaged Keaton’s tires, but he continued for a ways on Highway 242, before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing into the woods, police say. A search was conducted, but was called off at 1:30 a.m. Keaton was arrested the next day. In his vehicle, police found a woman who had a limp and swollen knee due to the crash.

Keaton has a lengthy criminal record, having pleaded guilty to burglary and resisting arrest in 2010; he spent time in prison for those crimes. He also pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge in 2011 and spent time in prison for that as well.

He is being held without bond.
