ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Developer Jeff Tegethoff — who spearheaded the $500 million Oasis at Lakeport entertainment complex on Lake of the Ozarks, which is currently under construction — has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy for one of his development companies.

Tegethoff Development Co., LLC filed for bankruptcy in federal court on Monday, June 1.

From the filing, the company reported $3.5 million in revenue in 2024, $10,000 in 2025, and zero revenue in 2026. The filing also referenced an ongoing lawsuit against Tegethoff’s company, brought by Solera Multifamily LLC and Hickory Investors LLC. That lawsuit alleges Tegethoff took investors’ money for a St. Peters, Mo. apartment development and used it for unrelated business and personal expenses. Tegethoff has denied those allegations and the lawsuit is still tied up in court.

In Monday’s bankruptcy filing, Tegethoff’s company reported $137.09 in assets, meaning unsecured creditors would not expect to receive anything after administrative expenses are paid.

At Lake of the Ozarks, Tegethoff also developed the Preserve at Sycamore Creek apartment complex, and had previously mentioned ambitions to purchase another large tract on the Lake for an additional hotel development.

LakeExpo reached out to the Oasis development group on Wednesday about the bankruptcy filing. A spokesperson told LakeExpo the Tegethoff bankruptcy filing would not negatively impact the project, and they issued the following statement:

We are aware of the bankruptcy filing by Tegethoff Development. We had previously removed Jeff and his affiliated companies as a manager of the Lakeport project legal entities and are currently reviewing all necessary legal steps to remove Tegethoff Development as the developer for the Lakeport project. We are continuing to monitor the situation and exploring our legal rights as it pertains to Tegethoff Development’s conduct.

Backed by experienced leadership and well-capitalized ownership, Oasis is transforming into one of the Midwest’s premier family entertainment destinations. The development team remains fully committed to delivering the approximately $500 million, year-round resort experience, which will include an amusement park, Missouri’s largest indoor water park, Marriott Resort and Conference Center, restaurants, retail and entertainment. Additional rides will continue to be installed throughout the summer as the project progresses toward opening the amusement park, parking garage and boat slips in Spring 2027. The visible construction activity and ongoing investment in the project underscore the team’s confidence in both the long-term vision and successful completion of Oasis Lake of the Ozarks.

LakeExpo has reached out to Tegethoff for comment, but as of this publishing has not received a response.
