LAKE OZARK — Is it a corny spin on the famous “Cannes Film Festival”? Sure. But corn is welcome—along with any other canned foods—at the upcoming Cans Holiday Film Festival at Marcus Wehrenherg Theatre in Lake Ozark.
Marcus Wehrenberg Theatres and The Salvation Army are partnering for the Cans Holiday Film Festival on Saturday, Dec. 2. Following the acquisition of Wehrenberg Theatres, Marcus Theatres is continuing this long-standing tradition that provides thousands of meals each year. The 2017 event introduces new changes while keeping the central goal of the food drive alive: to help fill The Salvation Army’s food pantries and support the annual Tree of Lights campaign. Ten Marcus Wehrenberg Theatres throughout Missouri and Greater St. Louis will participate in the collection, sponsored by iHeart Media radio.
"During the course of the year, we provide more than 100,000 canned goods through our food pantries throughout the St. Louis region", said Lt. Colonel Dan Jennings, The Salvation Army Midland Divisional Commander. "Historically, the canned goods collected from this program have helped fulfill nearly 80 percent of the requests we receive throughout the year. We thank the community for their generous support of this program in the past and hope to see everyone December 2. Whether giving five cans or 50 cans, your donation makes a difference."
For the 2017 “Cans” food drive, holiday classic films will be shown to coincide with the season of giving. This is a change from the first-run films of past years, but was necessary to continue the support of this important food drive. Marcus Wehrenberg Theatres will offer a selection of holiday classic films for guests who bring in five or more canned goods at participating locations between 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on December 2. These donations will provide meals for those in need from the holiday season through the summer months.
2017 Cans Holiday Film Festival program overview:
· December 2 offer: Guests who bring in five or more canned food items (per person) between 9 a.m.-6 p.m. will receive free admission to one of three holiday classic films including “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Elf” and “The Polar Express.” Donors can choose from a selection of showtimes playing all day, including in the evening.
· December 8-14 buy-one-ticket, get-one-free (BOGO) offer: As a thank you for their generosity, guests who make a donation of five or more canned food items on December 2 will also receive a BOGO voucher to return to see another $5 holiday classic film. The selection includes “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” “A Christmas Story” and “White Christmas.”
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with The Salvation Army,” said Rolando Rodriguez, chairman, president and CEO of Marcus Theatres. “In the fight against hunger, every can counts. Beyond receiving a free holiday film, we hope the community continues to embrace this as an opportunity to help those less fortunate when they need it the most.”
