ROCKY MOUNT, Mo. — Wonderland Camp brings recreation, education, fun and adventure to children and adults with developmental disabilities, and they need camp counselors for 2018. Located in Rocky Mount, MO, Wonderland currently has more than 30 openings for high-quality, dedicated Special Needs Camp Counselors to work this summer.

The role of Special Needs Counselor is to provide a safe and encouraging environment where campers with special needs are valued and given the opportunity to explore new experiences. Campers may have developmental, physical, neurological, learning and/or mental impairments. The camper to staff ratio is three-to-one, we do have some campers that require one-to-one care.

Requirements

We welcome male and female candidates ages 17 and above. All counselors receive on-the-job training before camp begins.

This is an exceptional opportunity for college students who are currently seeking degrees in special education, medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, social work or psychology. But applicants with no related experience will still be considered and will begin in an aide/assistant counselor role to gain experience.

Wonderland Camp counselors must show maturity, sensitivity, patience and compassion in dealing with special needs individuals. We are looking for people with energetic attitudes with a knack for creative problem solving.

Qualified applicants will live and work at Wonderland Camp 24 hours a day, 6 days a week alongside fellow staff members and our amazing special needs campers. Room and board are included; and paid staff members are treated to a weekly staff recognition party.

Responsibilities

Wonderland Camp counselors must tend to each camper’s individual needs and assist campers who require dressing, feeding and bathroom help. Counselors may assist with arts and crafts activities, swimming, obstacle course participation, archery; and may other outdoor and indoor activities.

Volunteers

Wonderland Camp also utilizes volunteers to work with the campers and help staff ensure that campers enjoy their stay. Volunteers can work for an hour, a week or more and they may pick the time that works best for their schedules.
