SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. — Police are keeping a close eye on a local quarry operation, after blasting launched rocks across Highway 5. But SBPD Chief David Slavens says the company, Magruder Limestone, has made improvements to the process.
The owners/operators are under city ordinance to report to the police department each time they blast in the quarry. On previous occasions large rocks and debris were blasted out onto and even across Highway 5, but Slavens said that situation has improved.
“They have contracted with a new blasting company and have done an excellent job,” Chief Slavens confirmed. “We just have to go down and monitor them each time they blast.”
Last month, on March 7, officers were called to the location; Chief Slavens said this was the fourth time an officer had attending the blasting.
