Most of Camdenton’s employees will enjoy a pay increase amounting to approximately 25-cents per hour in the next fiscal year after the Board of Alderman approved Resolution 16-06 on August 2. This increase is across the board except for those positions affected by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), changes in job responsibilities, and/or duties requiring after-hours meetings. Positions affected by one of more of those factors include a Community Service officer, Building Director, Fire Chief, City Clerk, and Parks Director.
Camdenton’s Alderman also approved a request to initiate a 45-day public information period to consider increasing the City’s benefit to employees under Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System (LAGERS) from 1.25% to 1.5%. Alderwoman Osborn asked if the City had estimated the City’s cost. City Administrator Hancock answered in the affirmative. Item 11-A introduced at the August 2 meeting shows the anticipated fiscal impact to be $62,000.
A proposal to increase compensation for the Mayor and Aldermen was approved in a first reading with Alderwoman Osborn voting no. A request to delay the second reading was granted. Compensation for these elected officials has not been increased since 2003.
Proposed increases would not take affect until the next election as Section 79.270. RSMo requires compensation “not be changed during the time for which [an official] was elected.” In other words, sitting officials may not grant themselves raises, but they may grant raises to incoming officials, including themselves if they succeed in being reelected.
Under the terms of the proposal, the Mayor would receive $6,000 annually and payable monthly. He or she would also receive $75 for attending “regular and special” Board of Alderman meetings. The Mayor will also be “compensated for up to two missed meetings within” a year. The proposal conforms to “Ordinance 1334-90 passed and approved by the Board of Alderman October 2, 1990.”
Board of Alderman would also receive $75 per “regular and special” Board of Alderman meetings. They too would be compensated for missing up to two meetings in a “twelve (12) month period.”
In other business, the Board authorized City staff to purchase 3.15 acres from John E. Reinhold and Judith C. Reinhold in order to expand the Camdenton Memorial Lake Regional Airport.
City Administrator Hancock advised the Board he would provide a preliminary budget at the August 16 meeting. He added the City Clerk, Mayor, and department heads have been collaborating on a long-term plan to spend approximately the same amount of money each year on upgrading vehicles and equipment. This collaboration provides opportunities for each department to become more aware of the needs within other departments and could make annual budgeting for high-dollar items easier.
Hancock also noted the City will begin upgrading the city’s zoning at 6:00 p.m. on August 23 with the help of RDG.
