LAURIE, Mo. — The City of Laurie will celebrate Arbor Day during the Hillbilly Fair with a special planting of a pink dogwood tree, in memory of a local businessman. The ceremony will be at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, at the Hillbilly Fair in the Laurie Park.
Laurie Mayor Allen Kimberling will plant the tree in honor of Laurie businessman Tom Moore at the opening of the fair. The tree planting will be near the water wheel on the hill overlooking the park. Moore was instrumental in getting the water wheel built in the park.
“We also want to convey the cities dedication to preserving trees and to the memory of our good friend Tom Moore, who with his hands, helped to make Laurie into the city it is today,” Laurie Alderwoman Karen Dobbins said.
The Celebrate Arbor Day program provides educational materials and resources to schools across America. These resources help introduce and educate hundreds of thousands of future environmental stewards to the importance of tree planting and care.
