Fishing for Education held the rodeo in conjunction with the Crappie Masters All American Tournament Trail National Qualifier.

Children ages 0 to 15 participated in the free rodeo in which every child won a prize and were entered into a drawing for entrance to the Youth Scholarship Fish-Off held at the Crappie Masters National Championships. Kids Fishing Rodeos have awarded more than $5,000 in scholarship funds annually. The tournament winner was C.J. Rogers, who landed eight fish.

Members of the Crappie Masters staff volunteer to run the rodeo. “Anytime you can get kids out from in front of the X-Box and television it is a good thing,” Kids Fishing for Education Director Kurt Sherman said. “It is also a great time for parents and kids to connect.” Sherman said besides the time spent fishing, families are together as they get ready for the rodeo, traveling to and from the rodeo and going out to breakfast. “That’s a good seven to 10 hours of quality-time,” Sherman added. “It is also a great way for kids to interact socially.”

The event was sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine, Nitro Boats, Humminbird, Minn Kota and Captain Ron’s Bar and Grill, as well as many more national companies and local businesses too numerous to list. The April 16 tournament qualified anglers for the 2016 National Championship to be held on Grenada Lake, Grenada, MS.

Kids Fishing and Education will also hold a Fund Raising Crappie Tournament on Saturday, June 4th, 2016 on Truman Lake in Clinton, Mo. Weigh in will be held at Everhart's Outdoor Store in Clinton, with an auction to benefit kid’s scholarships immediately following the weigh in. The tournament entry fee will be $100 per team, with a 70 percent payback to anglers. For information visit crappiemasters.net.
