LAKE OZARK, Mo. — A local gardening club has added some patriotic curb appeal to a memorial in Lake Ozark, and they're thanking many in the community who helped make it happen.

On Armed Forces Day in 2010, a Blue Star Memorial Marker, located at the roadside park next to Lake Ozark City Hall, was originally dedicated. The Marker is to honor all men and women who have served, are serving or will serve in the Armed Forces of the United States. Seeking better visibility for the memorial, the Arrowhead Garden Club enlarged the plantings, incorporating red, white and blue flowers and shrubs.

Discussions started with the City of Lake Ozark in August, 2015. The vision has now become a reality.

The club thanked many local organizations and individuals who helped with the project:

  • The City of Lake Ozark, which provided water, soil, mulch and reseeded the island.
  • Nancy Hall and Deb Finn of DNA Garden Coaches for creating the design.
  • Lake of the Ozarks Elks Lodge #2517 Veterans’ Committee for donating money to buy the plants.
  • Bill Mackay, owner of Paradise Landscaping, Irrigation and Pool Maintenance and also an Elks member, for donating the irrigation system.
  • ChaseCo Rental donated a trencher.
  • Steve Ryan with Straight Flush Plumbing excavated and tapped into the water line.
  • Bryan Murray with United Backflow Inspectors certified the system.
  • Lowe’s provided the plant material at cost.
