JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — An environmentally friendly, cost-efficient paving process will began today on U.S. Route 54 near Kingdom City, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation.
The innovative maintenance process, called Hot-In-Place recycling, uses specialized equipment to recycle existing asphalt material on the highway to repair and rehabilitate the deteriorated roadway. Hot-In-Place recycling is less impactful on the environment and allows available money to be invested over more square yards. Once the Hot-In-Place operation is completed, the contractor will place a 3/4" new asphalt overlay on top of the recycled pavement to complete the roadway improvements.
The operation will require single-lane lane closures in the eastbound and westbound lanes of Route 54 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each weekday until late August. The work will start on Route 54 from the Business 54 ramp in Fulton and will continue to a location 2.5 miles north of the I-70 Interchange. One lane will be open through the work zone.
Motorists can expect a slow-moving caravan of up to eight trucks with flashing lights and signs. No significant traffic delays are expected. Motorists are advised to drive with extreme caution in the work zone and should pass the caravan in the open lane.
All work is weather permitting.
