OSAGE BEACH, Mo. — A U.S. Environmental Protection Agency mandate is requiring a comprehensive inventory of water service line materials for the City of Osage Beach—and certain residents are being asked to assist with its completion.Â
The inventory, referred to as a Lead Service Line Inventory, is required to document the material of all water service lines that connect individual properties to the City’s water distribution system, including the portion of the line located on private property between the City-owned main and the residence.
The purpose of the inventory is to ensure the City has clear documentation of where potential concerns exist and at what level, consistent with federal requirements established following lead-related water issues in other parts of the country.
The City of Osage Beach confirms there are no lead pipes in the City-owned water distribution system. The City’s water infrastructure was constructed well after the federal ban on the use of lead pipes, and staff has a high level of confidence that this effort will identify minimal to no lead service lines within the community.
Water Service Line Self-Identification Forms were recently mailed to select property owners. Not all residents will receive a form. Forms were sent only to properties for which the City does not have documented records identifying the material of the service line located on private property.
Receipt of the form does not indicate the presence of a lead service line or a water quality concern. The request is part of a record-verification process intended to address gaps in historical data and fulfill federal reporting requirements.
City officials note that timely participation by residents is critical to completing the inventory efficiently. The more quickly the information is returned, the sooner the City can finalize the required documentation. Delays in participation will extend the process and require the City to continue sending notices in future years until the inventory is complete.
Residents who receive the form are asked to complete and return it as soon as possible. The form includes instructions for identifying the service line material where the water line enters the home. Completed forms may be returned by email to Cdevore@osagebeach.org or by mail or in person to the City of Osage Beach, 5757 Chapel Drive, Osage Beach, MO 65065.
For questions, residents and members of the media may contact the City of Osage Beach Public Works Department at 573-348-5100, ext. 2020.
