Today is the longest day of the year, and the lengthy daylight reminds Lake of the Ozarks homeowners that the glaring sun can make the dock unbearable at certain times of the day.
So one business has taken dock shade to the next level: Shady Docks.
Their new line of premium dock shades are built with a unique aluminum frame and wireless handheld remote: that means shades that move when you want them to… and not when you don’t.
Dock owners can now raise and lower the shades with the click of a button. Check out the videos below:
This customer just invested in an absolutely beautiful Cruiser Yacht and Shady Docks was tasked with providing the sun protection it needed to keep it perfect for years to come. Shady Docks automated shade screens on the bottom half allow all the swimming and fishing memories for the kids while still protecting year round from the damaging rays.
Jeff “Dock” Dockweiler, president of Shady Docks and Bug Shield (and yes, his last name really is Dockweiler), got his start manufacturing industrial bug-screen doors.
In 2020, as Covid-19 shutdowns impacted his industry, Dockweiler came down to the Lake of the Ozarks to wait it out. While he was here he had an idea: the technology he used for industrial bug-screen doors would be perfect for dock shades.

“We are not just a dealer for a door-maker. We are the door-maker,” Dockweiler explained. “We do everything; everything is done in-house.”
“We decided to get a booth at the Shootout to get people’s reaction on this door and we were overrun by people and their excitement and enthusiasm for an automated shade screen door. People loved the idea of a push-button remote control,” Dockweiler said.

For anyone worried about their dock when they’re not home, Shady Docks has a solution for that too.
Shady Dock’s dock shade has a wind sensor that automatically activates the shade to go up in high wind, protecting the unit from damage. A built-in sun sensor can be set to automatically lower the shades when it senses intense sunlight.
The state-of-the-art design of Shady Docks also offers an extremely durable shade. Most dock shades are hung on a pulley, somewhat like pull-down blinds, and are manually pulled down and latched at the bottom to mitigate wind damage. But even with the latch, those dock shades can be stretched and warped by the wind and usually wear out in two or three years. By contrast, Shady Dock’s shades are on a track, similar to a garage door. The extruded aluminum track and wind supports keep the shade screen locked in place and protect it from wind damage.
“These doors were first built for industrial environments. Caustic, crazy, dirty environments where things get beat up, and that’s what it’s designed for. They’re built really stoutly,” Dockweiler said.
Shady Dock dock shades are built and manufactured in O’Fallon, Mo., and Dockweiler's Lake of the Ozarks team handles installation and service for Lake dock owners ready for a shade upgrade.
