Amateur radio operators across the Lake of the Ozarks region are set up to provide hyperlocal weather data to one another and the National Weather Service, thanks to the work of local volunteers and donors.

Spearheading the effort is Dennis Klautzer, with KRMS radio, who has provided the base radio systems and tower facilities. Ernest Venis has provided some of the hardware equipment as well as the technical expertise that enables all lake area HAM radio operators to communicate early warnings regarding impending emergency severe weather storms.

Regional HAM radio operators will now have, for the first time, the advantage of directly communicating with each other, including storm spotters in southwest Missouri and the National Weather Service. This new capability was also supported by anonymous financial donors.

The Camden County Emergency Management Agency, (CCEMA), under the direction of Ron Gentry, also functions in concert with this new communication system.

Gentry at CCEMA is also working with Lake Area Storm Spotter (LASS) and Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) who will also benefit from this venture.
