Through the woods and over a bridge in Camdenton lies a hidden treasure: Riverbird Winery. Perched above the Niangua River, this escape—sister to Shawnee Bluff Winery—offers a captivating blend of natural beauty, historical charm, and a dining experience that transcends expectations.

Transforming Riverbird Winery has been a labor of love. The owners have meticulously restored the 1920s building since acquiring the property in 2017.

“We saved it from the courthouse steps and bought it sight unseen,” owner Gail Griswold recalled. “Whether it was time or money, we wanted to do it right.”

Ready for stunning sights and unforgettable tastes? Make your way to 442 Riverbird Lane, just off Highway 54 in Camdenton.

Guests can savor small-batch wines in a building steeped in history. Once known as the Mozark Millionaires’ Rod & Reel Club, the Historic Hugo Urbauer Lodge was a bustling retreat constructed with hand-quarried stone from the surrounding area.

“We were excited to bring the space back to life and share it with the community,” Griswold said of the 1930 site. “We’ve exceeded our expectations since opening in August.”

The magic of Riverbird extends outdoors, where the Ozark hills frame a sprawling patio and custom-built timber stage. With picturesque scenery and an inviting atmosphere, the winery offers the perfect backdrop for weddings, corporate gatherings, or an afternoon with friends.

“It’s five miles of gravel road to get here, but once you’re here, it’s worth the trek,” Gail said, emphasizing the winery's secluded charm.

Elevating the experience is Executive Chef Matt Smith, who blends old-world culinary techniques with modern flavors. His rich background in fine dining and Asian cuisine gives the menu a unique flair, with dishes designed to perfectly complement the wines. What truly sets Riverbird apart is the people.

“The staff are great,” Smith said. “They’ve really embraced the experience, talking about wine and food and giving fantastic service.”

Riverbird Winery is also a community hub. Live music, weekly specials, and seasonal menus keep guests coming back, and events are hosted year-round.
