LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — Since the Lake of the Ozarks Community Bridge stopped collecting tolls on Tuesday, the Camden County Sheriff's Office has received reports of scammers trying take advantage of the moment.Â
"Scammers are doing what scammers do," the office posted on Facebook. "If you receive a text message from someone claiming to be from 'Missouri Toll' wanting to collect an outstanding balance - it is a scam."
If someone from the Lake of the Ozarks Community Bridge Corporation needs to reach a person, they will do so by U.S. mail. For those who held a toll bridge card, refunds began processing after collection was terminated April 30.Â
"Please share this information with your elderly friends and family members as scammers tend to go after the elderly first," said the Sheriff's Office.Â
