CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — An Illinois man pleaded guilty last month to Boating While Intoxicated during a fatal accident at Lake of the Ozarks in 2021.Â
Dylan McEwen, who authorities say had a blood alcohol level of .187% when he was tested three hours after the incident, was sentenced to two years of probation under a tracking program.
The incident took place in August 2021, when 21-year-old Sean Jouglard was ejected from a boat driven by McEwen. Witnesses reported the boat jumping waves at a high rate of speed, leading to Jouglard's ejection from the boat. Jouglard, of Waterloo, Ill., was reported missing that day, and his body was recovered on Aug. 9, 2021.
Early reports by authorities stated Jouglard had jumped from the boat, but later witness accounts confirmed that Jouglard had been ejected as the boat traveled at a high rate of speed over waves.
The judge suspended the imposition of sentence (SIS), meaning McEwen will not have a felony on his record if he successfully completes the terms of his probation. As part of his sentence, he must comply with the conditions set by the probation office and pay court-ordered costs.
