LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — Residents around the Lake and throughout most of Missouri will be under a Flash Flood Watch this weekend, as rains are predicted to stick around through the weekend.

The Flash Flood Watch officially begins at 7 p.m. on Friday and extends through Sunday night. The National Weather Service says the current storm system will bring 4 to 6 inches of rain across much of central Missouri, with some areas seeing 8 inches or more.

Thanks to recent rainfall, soils are saturated and streams are full, which means flooding is likely throughout the Missouri Ozarks, the NWS predicts. The Weather Service said flooding could even occur in areas that don’t normally flood. Low water crossings and creeks will undoubtedly be flooded, based on the forecast, and could stay flooded for several days after the rain ends, the NWS predicts.

Drivers should avoid any flooded roads, as cars can become stranded even in small amounts of water.

The weather system will also bring thunderstorms on Saturday, with a risk of large hail, wind gusts up to 60 mph, and possibly tornado-producing conditions.
