The Missouri Department of Transportation has installed three “No Texting While Driving” signs at the city limits of Sunrise Beach.
The signs are located at the north and south entrances to the village on Highway 5 as well as at the entrance on Route TT. “I told my officers that they can begin ticketing for texting while driving once the signs were up,” Sunrise Beach Police Chief Jeff Campbell said, adding, “It’s not about tickets, it’s about safety. I hope this will save lives.”
The village passed an ordinance banning texting while driving, in July of 2018, and the law went into effect in August. Police had been issuing warnings until signs were erected. Read more below:
