JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Six people died in traffic crashes, three people died in boating crashes, and three people drowned during the 2014 July Fourth holiday counting period, from July 3–6, 2014.

That’s according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report that notes traffic deaths were down compared to the same weekend last year, but boating and water-related deaths were up.

Compare those numbers with 2013:

There were 19 traffic fatalities during the 2013 July Fourth holiday. Boating statistics for the 2013 July Fourth holiday included 19 boating crashes resulting in one fatality; additionally, there were three drownings.

Of the 2014 traffic fatalities, one occurred in the Lake of the Ozarks area. No boat crash fatalities occurred at the Lake during the holiday weekend, but there was one drowning.
