MORGAN COUNTY, Mo. — Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper Anthony Piercy entered a plea of Not Guilty when he was arraigned in Morgan County court on Thursday.
Piercy is charged with Involuntary Manslaughter in the handcuffed drowning death of Brandon Ellingson, which took place in May of 2014. After a protracted investigation, special prosecutor William Seay filed the charge against Piercy in December of 2015. Seay said the charge carries the implication of recklessness. The charge is a Class C Felony, which in Missouri entails a sentence of up to seven years in prison. Piercy has been released from jail on bond, and has since resigned his position as an elected member of the Morgan County R-II School Board. The Highway Patrol has placed Piercy on leave without pay.
Piercy’s case will be set for trial at a future date, in Morgan County.
