'Tis the season for ludicrous amounts of indulgence on sweets, and candy-makers are leaning into the festivity with a bit of whimsy. We're all accustomed to the holiday staples: candy canes, fudge, red and green M&Ms. But some sweets shoppers will find on the shelves this Christmas season are, well, unorthodox.
(Thanks to CandyStore.com for bringing these to our attention. See their full list here.)
REESE'S 'SERIOUSLY THIS ISN'T POOP' CANDIES
Whatever this candy may look like, you can't say that Reese's was short on time when perfecting this holiday treat. The company has been producing trees filled with peanut butter gold for more than two decades. #AllTreesAreBeautiful While we all know, and many love the taste, I would bet that some of you have strong preferences for Reese's Pieces, Peanut Butter Cups, or maybe even the Christmas Trees!
PEEPS NOT-CREEPY-AT-ALL GIANT GINGERBREAD MEN
Possibly the most polarizing of all candies, Peeps made a new incursion into Christmas treats this year: the giant gingerbread peep. Oh joy! These 4" giants among the candy world are ideal for kung-fu fights, doll houses, and of course eating.
Christmas themed Peeps will also come in: Regular-sized Gingerbread Men, Peeps Snowmen, Peeps Hot Chocolate Chicks, Peeps Chocolate Mousse Reindeer, Peeps Peppermint Bark Chicks, Peeps Christmas Cookie Chicks, and the Peeps Christmas Trees.
MAC 'N' CHEESE CANDY CANES
These don't need any explanation. But they do beg a question. WHY?
But if you're into odd-flavored candy canes, McPhee's also makes a few other wacky ones: Rotisserie Chicken Candy Canes, Pickle Candy Canes, Coal Candy Canes (“Smoky cinnamon”).
HOT COCOA HERSHEY KISSES
Take all the good from a Peep (the marshmallow,) then "creamify" if with more sugar and put it inside a Hershey's Kiss and you'll taste the perfection of a mug of hot cocoa with marshmallows, in the easily pop-able chocolate candy. Marshmallow cream filled kisses are one candy that is on the right track this holiday.
AND THAT'S JUST THE BEGINNING...
CandyStore.com brought these off-the-wall holiday treats to our attention, and they've got several more on the list of "you'll either love it or hate it." Like a certain chocolate-candy-themed Advent calendar...
