Fourteen Missouri state parks will be temporarily closed to the public for managed deer hunts in November and December, including Ha Ha Tonka in Camdenton.

Coordinated between the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Missouri Department of Conservation, officials say these hunts are ways to safely and effectively manage the parks' deer population.

Ha Ha Tonka State Park will be closed Nov. 7-9. On those days, guests will be turned away for their safety.

While these parks are usually wildlife refuges where hunting isn't allowed, the MoDNR and MDC hold special managed hunts to prevent harm from the ecosystem. Studies this year showed an overcrowded number of deer per acre, so the managed hunt will help other wildlife in the area.

The MDC has already selected hunters. The following state parks will also be temporarily closed on these dates:

  • Rock Bridge Memorial State Park in Columbia – Nov. 3-4.
  • Bennett Spring State Park in Lebanon – Nov. 7-9.
  • Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park in Wildwood – Nov. 7-9.
  • Crowder State Park Trenton – Nov. 7-9.
  • Cuivre River State Park in Troy – Nov. 1-5.
  • Long Branch State Park in Macon – Nov. 8-11.
  • Robertsville State Park in Robertsville – Nov. 8-9.
  • Mark Twain State Park in Florida – Nov. 8-9 and Dec. 6-7.
  • St. Joe State Park in Park Hills – Nov. 15-16.
  • Harry S Truman State Park in Warsaw – Dec. 1-4.
  • Montauk State Park in Salem – Dec. 2-4.
  • St. Francois State Park in Bonne Terre – Dec. 5-8.
