CAMDENTON, Mo. – A fire completely destroyed a home Friday afternoon in Camdenton.
According to Mid County Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Chris Bachman, a person living in the home at 42 Highland Glenn Court walked out of the bathroom and found a couch and the wall behind it on fire. The individual ran to a neighbor’s house and called 911.
Mid County Fire Protection District responded to the structure fire. “By the time we arrived the structure was 50 percent involved,” Deputy Chief Bachman said. "We were very fortunate to get the initial knockdown on the fire without losing a neighbor’s home and garage that was in immediate danger," he added.
Mid-County crews were able to bring the blaze under control with assistance from Camdenton Fire Department and Osage Beach Fire Protection District. There were no fire hydrants in the immediate area therefore a tanker shuttle was established using four Mid-County tankers to haul water from a water supply one mile away.
The structure was a total loss and minimal damage was sustained to the exterior of two additional structures in close proximity. There were no injuries, although Mercy Ambulance was called in to standby at the scene as a precautionary measure. Nineteen personnel were on scene for several hours to completely extinguish the fire and overhaul the scene.
The family renting the home lost everything, including recently purchased Christmas gifts. Neither the renters nor the property owners had fire insurance. Persons interested in helping the family can contact the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation, but it is suspected to be electrical in nature.
