OSAGE BEACH, Mo. — After a lengthy and locally famous pilgrimage along Lake of the Ozarks shoreline neighborhoods, local male peacock Akbar has found his way home.

Akbar lives in a neighborhood off Key Largo Road, but escaped in mid-April. He was spotted (pun intended) in neighborhoods across the western parts of Osage Beach and into Linn Creek, and locals posted photos of the rambling bird on Facebook. His owners, David and Rachel Garmany, followed the postings, hoping Akbar would find his way home. He's tame, but tough to wrangle, David said.
The story was too good not to talk about, so LakeExpo published about Akbar's galavanting on Monday, April 29.
On Wednesday, May 1, Rachel Garmany sent the LakeExpo crew a message: "I am in tears as i pull up to my house today, our Akbar made it home!!!! we are so excited to have him back safe and sound."

Rachel said she had been bringing a banana—Akbar's favorite food—to work every day, to have it ready at hand if he happened to be in the yard when she got home. Their instincts were right: Akbar returned home, and made short work of a banana snack.
