According to probable cause documents filed in Morgan County Court, the three suspects allegedly entered a residence on W. 3rd Street in Stover, after midnight on May 16. Three men who live in the residence were reportedly watching TV at the time of the alleged burglary, and they told authorities that Hutchison, Shewmaker, and Beckmann barged in and announced they were looking for another man, who was asleep inside.

The witnesses reportedly told police that the three men went to the back of the house where Hutchison allegedly kicked in a door and then found the victim.

In a later interview, the victim told authorities Hutchison put him in a choke hold while Hutchison and Shewmaker punched him. One of the men who had been watching TV in the living room told authorities he went into the hallway to help the victim, but Hutchison allegedly threw him to the floor and held him down. Eventually the victim was able to escape and the witnesses said the three men then fled.

When investigators interviewed the victim, he reportedly had strangulation marks on his neck, swelling of the face, and other visible injuries.

Hutchison, Shewmaker, and Beckmann were later found at a residence in Gravois Mills. They were arrested and charged.
