Meth, Shrooms, And Counterfeit Pills Seized In Camden County Drug Busts

CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — Multiple people were arrested following investigations by the Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force, which seized dangerous drugs over the past month according to officials. 

Here are the cases in January that the Camden County Sheriff's Office handled:


Growing Shrooms & Fake Prescriptions

On Jan. 5, deputies responded to a residence on Jefferies Road in Montreal for reported drug activity. Along with the Task Force, law enforcement allegedly discovered a psilocybin mushroom cultivation operation. 

Numerous controlled prescription drugs (many of which were counterfeit) were also reportedly found in the residence. Approximately one pound of shrooms and 184 pills were seized according to the Sheriff's Office.

Lucie L. Stephens, 51 of Montreal, was arrested and taken to the Camden County Adult Detention Facility, where she is being held without bond. She was charged with: Class C felony of manufacturing a controlled substance; two counts of Class D felony possession of a controlled substance.

Traffic Stop Leads To More Drugs In Storage Unit

On Jan. 14, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Beachwood Dr in Sunrise Beach, during which the deputy allegedly found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. 

Further investigation led deputies to a storage unit in Sunrise Beach, which deputies secured and later granted a search warrant. The Sheriff's Office said 24.5 grams of individually packaged meth was found that was to be sold in the community.

Paul N. Brotherton, 52 of Sunrise Beach, was arrested and taken to the Camden County Adult Detention Facility on charges of: Class C felony delivery of controlled substance; Class D felony possession of controlled substance. He later posted a $5,000 bond. 

Suspected Drug Trafficker Arrested On The Move 

On Jan. 20, the Mid-MO Drug Task Force intercepted information about a suspected drug trafficker returning to the Lake after getting narcotics in Columbia. 

Through coordinated efforts with other law enforcement agencies, 43-year-old Ricky D. Brown J was located in Cole County. The MUSTANG Drug Task Force and Cole County Sheriff's deputies intercepted the suspect and took him into custody.

Approximately 1/3 of a pound of meth was reportedly seized at that time. Brown, of Osage Beach, was taken to the Cole County Detention Center where he was charged with Class B felony of 2nd degree drug trafficking. He is being held without bond. 


"These cases are examples of how our deputies, working hand-in-hand with our citizens and partner agencies, continue to make a real difference in our community," said Sheriff Chris Edgar. "Drug trafficking will not be tolerated in Camden County, and we remain committed to holding those responsible accountable."

Concerned citizens who have information regarding the sale or possession of illegal and dangerous drugs are encouraged to contact the Camden County Sheriff's Office.

"Working together, we can help stop the spread of these dangerous substances and protect our community," Sheriff Edgar said.
