Sunshine, warm weather, and long weekends on the water are what Lake of the Ozarks is all about — and with summer right around the corner, now is the time to make sure your boat is ready to go.

If last season left behind a chipped gelcoat, a cloudy hull or damage below the waterline, Marine Fiberglass & Gelcoat can get your watercraft back in top shape before boating picks up again.

Spring is the ideal time to take care of those repairs and cosmetic fixes while there’s still time to get on the schedule. That way, when summer hits full swing, boat and jet ski owners can spend their weekends cruising the Lake instead of waiting at the dock for repairs.

John Eaton, owner of Marine Fiberglass & Gelcoat, brings 34 years of experience to every job he completes. After John and his wife, Dale Austin, moved to the Lake in February of 2020, they saw the opportunity to provide fiberglass and gelcoat repairs for boats and jet skis to Lake residents.

By the spring of 2021, Marine Fiberglass & Gelcoat officially opened shop in Osage Beach and began making waves at the Lake for having the reputation of doing excellent, honest work. Since then, through word of mouth and a presence on Facebook, Marine Fiberglass & Gelcoat has stayed extremely busy.

“John is a total perfectionist and very client-oriented. We communicate with customers throughout the process. We want them to know what is going on with their boat at all times,” Dale said.

Honesty goes a long way with Lake customers.

“We had a customer come in asking us how much it would be to gelcoat his entire boat, which would be expensive! John started asking him questions and realized the customer only needed some gelcoat repair and that a buff-and-wax would give the customer the look that he wanted. John makes sure not to do things that customers don’t need,” Dale noted.

For boats that spend a lot of time in the water, bottom painting helps protect the hull from algae and other buildup. Without it, stains and damage can set in over time.

“We also specialize in bottom painting boats to protect the boat’s hull. Not many other businesses at the Lake offer this service,” Dale said.

Bottom painting should be done every three to four years.

To get watercraft to the shop, Marine Fiberglass & Gelcoat arranges a time and place to pick up boats or jet skis, loading them into their trailers. For the big boats, a 6x6 camouflaged vehicle affectionately named “The Beast,” pulls a trailer built for hauling boats up to 45 feet long with absolute ease. After finishing repairs, Marine Fiberglass & Gelcoat is known for delivering the boat or jet ski back to the dock on time, every time.

If Lake boat owners have an insurance claim, Marine Fiberglass & Gelcoat can make those repairs. “We have worked with several insurance companies and know how to go about that process,” Dale said.
