A too-close encounter with a waterspout left a Florida boater nervous—but with some amazing video footage—on Sunday, July 29.

Eddie Ortiz spent about three months working on his boat named Lawn Enforcement and was ready to take it for a run Sunday with his two boys.

What he didn’t expect was clashing with Mother Nature head on.

In a Facebook post, Ortiz who lives in Palmetto Bay, Fla., said he was in the waters off Key Biscayne, Fla. Sunday morning with “this crazy Waterspout came a little too close for comfort and she was ripping!!!”

“Huge storm rolled up on us but with some quick thinking and a fast boat I quickly found shelter at a Stilthouse in Stiltsville,” he wrote.

Ortiz told WSVN7 that the spout was about a half a mile away.

“I kind of saw things get a little bit squirrelly out there, so I decided — you know, my 30 years of boating experience kind of kicked in,” Ortiz told the station.

The video shows gray skies with a clearly defined water spout, heavy wind and pelting rain. The boat is rocking back and forth as people stand under one of the homes.

“This was nuts,” Ortiz ended his post.
