One fish is all it takes, even if it’s the only one you catch.
It was a tough weekend of fishing, and John Odom, an angler competing in the Lake of the Ozarks Big Bass Bash, landed only one fish. That fish—a 7.59-pound lunker—sent him home with $101,500.
“This is what the Big Bass Bash is all about,” event organizer Anglers In Action said in the announcement on Facebook. “You are never out of this event.”
Odom used a big blade spinner bait, eight miles up the Niangua Arm, at around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 22.
The event pays huge for amateur anglers. Available payouts totaled $250,000 throughout the weekend: big hauls for those who landed the weekend’s largest fish, as well as smaller payouts for the top 30 fish every two hours on Saturday and Sunday.
“We want to thank all the anglers, sponsors, community supporters, Tri County lodging, and parks department for the continued success of this event,” Anglers In Action added. “Without all of you this tournament simply would not be here today.”
