LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — Docks without a 911 sign will not pass inspection in the Rocky Mount Fire Protection District, thanks to a new ordinance.

Rocky Mount Fire Protection District Board President Pam Bess broke a tie vote on RMFPD Chief Kevin Hurtibise’s request to amend Ordinance 2016-6 Building and User Fees. The amendment requires the installation of 911 signs on a boat dock before a dock can pass a RMFPD inspection. Board Vice President Ron Keller and Board Director Darrell Massey voted yes. Board Treasurer Jim Graf and Board Secretary Don Isaac voted no.

“It is not the district’s business to enforce Ameren Rules,” Graf commented. Chief Hurtibise explained that is was a matter of public safety as it is difficult, if not impossible, to locate lake homes from the water during emergency calls without the address.

In other business, the board approved giving a $500 donation to Boy Scout, Christian Gonnella, to purchase a brick on a firefighter memorial. Gonnella is building the memorial, for all emergency service personnel, from the three counties around the lake, as his Eagle Scout Project. The Osage Beach Fire Protection District has donated the land and other materials have been donated, but there are still other costs. To cover these costs, paver bricks are being sold and these bricks will be used to assemble a bell stand. The brick will have the RMFPD’s emblem/patch on it.

The board also approved Chief Hurtibise to research the cost to replace a broken depth finder for the purpose of locating missing individuals in the water. The board approved a request by Chief Hurtubise to purchase uniform shirts for district volunteers.
