LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — A Sunrise Beach woman perished on Monday afternoon when her vehicle sank in Lake of the Ozarks, with her still inside.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 78-year-old Nina Rhodes was operating a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee at the Shawnee Bend Access boat ramp, at 2957 Highway TT. Rhodes had finished launching a boat into the Lake from a trailer, the Patrol says, when she had an unknown medical event while using the Grand Cherokee to pull the trailer out of the water.
As a result, she lost control of the vehicle, and the vehicle went into the water.
The incident occurred at 1:37 p.m. Rhodes was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:40 p.m.
This was the third fatality on Lake of the Ozarks in three days. On Saturday, a boat crashed into a breakwater, killing one woman and injuring multiple other people, and on Sunday, a two-year-old boy wandered away from his family on land and was found drowned in the Lake.
