LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — A Kansas City, Kan. teen was hospitalized after nearly drowning on the Lake, Saturday afternoon.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 19-year-old Yolanda Munoz-Garcia, of Kansas City, Kan., was swimming near the mouth of the Ha Ha Tonka Spring, at around 1:22 p.m. The Patrol says Munoz-Garcia was “swimming in the current and started to struggle.” She reportedly went under the surface of the water and did not resurface on her own, but was pulled back to the surface by a bystander.
Park rangers, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, Mid County Fire District, and Mid County Ambulance all reesponded to the scene.
Munoz-Garcia was taken to Lake Regional Hospital in serious condition. Authorities say she was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
