LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — A wild crash left a boater seriously injured on Wednesday night, at the 28 Mile Marker.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2003 Baja driven by 66-year-old Rick Hansen, of Wilton, Iowa, crashed into a dock in Spring Branch Cove at around 9:45 p.m. on July 3. The Patrol says the Baja also hit a tritoon at the dock, before coming to rest partially through the dock roof.
It appears the Baja hit the dock decking and then was vaulted upward through the roof, and became stuck on the roof structure. (See photos below)
A witness to the scene on Wednesday night said there was a female passenger in the boat, but no injuries were reported for her. Hansen sustained serious injuries in the crash. He was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital and then flown by Staff for Life to University Hospital for treatment.
Lake Tow was on the scene, attempting to remove the boat from the dock structure. As of 7:30 a.m. Thursday, July 4, the boat was still stuck in the dock.
