KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A boat collision on Smithville Lake left 10 people hospitalized, Saturday afternoon.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at around 4:05 p.m. on Aug. 21, a 1990 Maxum boat was sitting stationary about a half-mile north of the Route W bridge when it was hit by another boat. That boat, a 2006 Sea Ray, was driven by 41-year-old Michael Brittain of Kansas City, Mo., and was headed westbound when it collided with the Maxum, the Patrol says.
The Maxum was totaled by the impact, and a total of 10 people on board the Maxum were injured and hospitalized, including three children and two teens. The Patrol categorized all of the injuries as "Minor," except for those of 26-year-old Haven Brende, of Holt, Mo., who had serious injuries.
