MORGAN COUNTY, Mo. – The Morgan County prosecutor today filed murder charges against an Eldon man and two Jefferson City residents in connection with an alleged double homicide near Versailles, Mo.
Derrell Spellmeyer, Garland Mitchell and Mandy Mitchell have all been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Morgan County Sheriff’s deputies found Freddie and Carol Wilson dead of apparent gunshot and stab wounds on Feb. 4 at their residence at 12931 Dorsey Lane, south of Versailles, Mo.
According to 911 records, Carol Wilson called 911 at 11:05 a.m., Feb. 4, to report being shot in the head.
According to the probable cause statement issued by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department, Spellmeyer allegedly admitted to shooting the gun, but stated, “They made me do it.” Spellmeyer later allegedly admitted to stabbing Freddie Wilson.
The Mitchells reportedly told police they drove Spellmeyer to the residence to get drugs, but stayed in the van. After they heard gunshots, they claim Spellmeyer returned to the van with a gun in his hand and blood on his hands and clothing.
They all fled the scene and while traveling southbound down Highway 5 swerved across the centerline striking a patrol car responding to the 911 call. The van traveled to the side of the road, where all three suspects were arrested.
Police, observing blood on Spellmeyer, seized a small .32 caliber handgun and a bullet casing from his front pocket, according to the probable cause statement. Deputies also seized a bottle of Hydrocodone belonging to victim Carol Wilson, according to court documents.
