CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — A 24-year-old man from Lebanon, Mo., is facing multiple charges including child abuse and resisting arrest after an incident Nov. 3.

Officer Daniel Burge of the Camden County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to an apparent business for reports of child abuse that Sunday morning, according to the probable cause statement. Jonathan Lesser-Howser was in a closed room with two small children.

Officer Burge said he asked Lesser-Howser to open the door, but was twice told no before it was thrown open. Officer Burger then ordered him out of his room.

Lesser-Howser allegedly resisted by pulling back from Officer Burge and attempting to push him away. Burge claims he ultimately brought him to the ground, sustaining a knee injury in the process, before securing him in handcuffs and placing him in the patrol vehicle.

The children were transported to Lake Regional Hospital for medical assessment and treatment by EMS. They reportedly suffered from severe diaper rash and a possible sexual assault, with one of them also sustaining a skull fracture.

Social services later told authorities that Lesser-Howser was "freaking out" the night before about having to take care of them, but there was no other family to take custody of the kids.

Lesser-Howser was charged with:

  • Domestic Assault 1st Degree
  • Abuse Or Neglect Of A Child (No Sexual Contact)
  • Assault - 2nd Degree - Special Victim
  • Resisting/Interfering With Arrest For A Felony
  • Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, 2nd Degree

He’s being held without bond at the Camden County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 12 at 9 a.m.
