CAMDENTON, Mo. — Improvements to Camdenton’s park, sidewalks and other local projects are in great shape, according to City Administrator J. Jeff Hancock.

On July 19, Hancock reported to the Board of Alderman about progress being made on nine capital improvement projects slated for the 2015-2016 fiscal year. He was pleased to report all are underway or nearing completion. These projects include new tennis courts for the City’s park, sidewalks along East Highway 54, and the Veteran’s Memorial Monument to be placed at Camdenton Memorial Lake Regional Airport.

Another of the projects involved a cost-sharing partnership with homeowners for road and drainage improvements along Clint and Hazelwood streets. That project was completed the day of the Alderman meeting, Tuesday, July 19, Hancock reported.  He invited Aldermen to drive the street to see the transformation.

The City was also proud to announce receipt of a $1,000 donation from local VFW post 5923. Post Commander Bill Mullins and Post Quartermaster Terry Reska presented the check to Mayor McNabb. He has also been invited to share news with Post 5923 members about the City’s deliberations to develop a monument and its efforts to raise money for the project. McNabb indicated he plans to accept the invitation.

The Board also approved a bill authorizing the City to contract with Clark’s Concrete to begin construction of the veteran’s monument. The City still hopes the memorial will be in place for the annual air show.

Aldermen unanimously approved a second resolution in support of Sunrise Senior Estates consisting of 40 affordable townhouse units on Fourth Street. The Board supported the same project in 2015, but the project stalled when it was not approved for State tax credits by the MO Housing Commission. Developers are reapplying for those tax credits in 2016, and they need another letter of support from the City to reapply.

Chief Wright reported that Operation Safe Way was a success and will be repeated in August. The operation involves stopping and for the most part, issuing warnings to drivers who demonstrate aggressive driving habits or seem to have forgotten best driving practices.

Parks and Recreation Director Larry Bennett said the hot weather has been good for the aquatic center. Attendance is up more than 1,000 over this time in 2015, and revenues are up approximately 24 percent. Recent wind storms did knock some trees down, and crews have been busy cleaning up the debris.
