Dirty Duck Crosses The Finish Line At Shootout 2026

LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — Seventy-five boats made a total of 105 runs down the Shootout race course on Saturday, and two of them topped the rare 200 mph mark.

In day one of the two-day Shootout event, Dirty Duck, a 438 Skater catamaran, took the top speed of the day with a 213 mph run... though the boat went airborne after crossing the finish line, ending in a wild crash that, miraculously, both drivers survived.

American Ethanol at Dog Days Docks

American Ethanol, a Mystic catamaran that has earned the Top Gun trophy for 10 of the last 11 years at the Shootout, made two runs on Saturday. The American Ethanol team posted about the runs on their Facebook page Saturday evening: "On our first run, we had trouble getting on plane and were still working through the trim setup. Even with those issues, we ran 198 MPH in just 3/8 of a mile. After making some adjustments, we had the trim figured out and went back out for our second pass. The boat ran 204 MPH, but at around 150 MPH we had an engine lay down, and we found that we had broken a rod bolt in one of the starboard engines."

No other boats at this year's race appear capable of challenging Dirty Duck's big run. The next-fastest after American Ethanol was the Demon Bikini boat, which ran 157 mph.

Last year's Top Gun — Darana Hybrid — did not return to the Shootout this year. So with Dirty Duck out for the rest of the weekend, the only question is whether the American Ethanol team will be able to get their boat up and running again for Sunday.

And while the big guns get the majority of the attention, it's also notable that of the 75 boats to run the course on Saturday, half of them — 37 exactly — broke 100 mph. That may not be "Top Gun" fast... but it's pretty darn fast on the water. And had they been in the first year of the Shootout, 1989, those racers would have been in contention for Top Gun. That year, Randy Scism — the owner of MTI Powerboats — posted the top speed: 101 mph.
